Common of Saints

One of the difficult questions regarding the compilation of a new Graduale O.P. is how to deal with the Common of Saints. There seem to be three main approaches:

  1. To follow the order listed in the Graduale Romanum
  2. To follow the order listed in the Proprium Missale OP
  3. To follow the order listed in the old Dominican Graduale

Each has advantages and disadvantages. For now, I’ve experimented with compiling the introit/officium and communio chants from the Proprium Missale OP list. Here is a booklet containing the chants. The chants have not yet been fully edited in light of the manuscripts.

This booklet contains the following chants:

Common of Apostles
Mihi autem (officum)
Vos qui secuti … tribus Israel (communio)

Common of Martyrs
Sapientiam sanctorum (officum)
Redime me Deus (communio)

Common of Pastors
Omnes gentes (officum)
Revelabitur (communio)

Common of Virgins
Tibi dixit cor meum (officum)
Passer invenit (communio)

Common of Holy Men and Women
Dominus secus mare (officum)
Primum quærite (communio)
